This process must be completed even if the parent has done the buyout of association volunteer hours, as the team requires volunteer hours. Please take your time to follow the directions and take a look at the FAQs; I am happy to be helpful, yet much of my time is spent copying the exact information found here. 

STEP 1: Parent/guardian register for your USA Hockey volunteer number available at no cost to you. A new number is required annually by USA Hockey. You can locate or obtain your number by going to: membership.USAHockey.com *If you are a USA Hockey referee, player, or coach, you can provide this number.  

STEP 2: Complete the required SafeSport training available at no cost to volunteers, coaches, officials, players, and employees. Due to a recent change, SafeSport Training will be valid for twelve (12) months rather than a full membership season. This means a person could be verified in October, but expire the end of the following month, as an example.

The first year you complete SafeSport training you will complete the Core SafeSport Course, the second year you complete the SafeSport Refresher 1 & 2, and the third year you complete SafeSport Refresher 3. The portal will only require you to complete what it required of you. You can find the training content by going to: https://www.usahockey.com/safesporttraining

Note: If you complete your USAH registration and immediately try to enter that number into the SafeSport training link, the two systems may not have had sufficient time to communicate/update. You may need to wait until the next business day before the update occurs. PLSHA does not control this process; this is a communication between USA Hockey & US Center for SafeSport.

STEP 3: Complete the USA Hockey required background screening. This process can be completed by the USA Hockey vendor in a few days, or can take as long as a couple weeks during high volume times. Background screening is valid for two years and costs $30. You can find the USA Hockey approved vendor information at:

You are not eligible to submit a screen at this time. Please see www.usahockey.com/backgroundscreen for questions. Please note, background screens are valid for two seasons. If you received a cleared screen in the 22-23 season, you will not be able to submit a new screen until the 24-25 season.
